Supporting a GED Program

Obtaining a GED is the only way that Love and Care students can apply to university. Supporting their GED program is essential to helping students pursue higher education. Your donations go towards purchasing GED preparation books and online learning software, hiring instructors, and helping to pay for the GED tests themselves, which cost $80 USD for each of the four tests, or $320 USD per person.

Purchasing School and Living Supplies

Donations will help the school continue to feed and house its students. Their current budget only allows them to eat meat once or twice a week. Beyond survival necessities, Love & Care allocates funds to purchase more books, chairs and desks, laptop computers, art supplies, musical instruments, and sports equipment.

01

Hiring More Teachers and Raising Teacher Salary

Love & Care does not have the budget to employ an adequate number of teachers for their growing student body. Limited instructors means they are forced to prioritize certain subjects and neglect others.

Current teachers receive about 1/3 of market-rate salary. Almost all of the teachers are former Love & Care students. Teachers live on campus, so in addition to being teachers, they also serve as nurses, guardians, janitors, chefs, RA's, and more.

Creating Vocational Training Programs

For those not pursuing higher education, securing stable employment is life-saving to teenagers who would otherwise return to their home country to be conscripted or imprisoned. Donations will help hire vocational instructors and purchase related materials. Planned programs include welding, carpentry, sewing, cooking, farming, and teacher training.

Teaching English Language Classes

The GED exam is only offered in English, so to attain a viable diploma and apply to universities, the students must be proficient in English. REF volunteers teach English language and GED-prep classes in-person and virtually. We are currently seeking more online English teachers; please click here to learn more.
